David Coolidge is one of two artists living in Southwest Florida included in the permanent collection at C’mon (Muffy Gill being the other). The Drake University (Des Moines,IA) graduate spent most of his early artistic career in Philadelphia before moving to Naples. The accomplished watercolorist is represented in a number of museum and public collections and is known primarily for landscapes and building-scapes of various locations in this country and in Europe. He has also created numerous works depicting masters of golf as well as famous golf courses. For that he was included in an exhibition entitled “Golf in American Art” which travelled to museums in Kennebunkport, ME; Augusta, GA; Myrtle Beach,SC; as well as our own von Liebig Art Center in Naples.
The painting in our collection, Carousel Ride, depicts the artist’s grandson riding a carousel, illustrating how art can create the illusion of motion. It is often picked out as a favorite by the young visitors to the Loos Art Gallery.
Coolidge was a guest at the recent Loos Art Gallery reception hosted by The Harmon-Meek Gallery at C’mon. He is pictured above with his painting hanging in the Loos Art Gallery.
