Meet Jessica Murphy, our May Featured C’mon Staff Person of the Month! We sat down with Jessica in her favorite exhibit to learn more about her and what she enjoys about working at C’mon.
Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I am originally from South Jersey, though I’ve spent almost as many years here in Southwest Florida. I came to the area to attend Florida Gulf Coast University, back when there were only 4 academic buildings and nobody had heard of the school. I am also momma to a little man who asks me everyday if he can come work at the Museum with me. Maybe one day, bubba.
Q: What is your favorite thing about C’mon?
A: I can’t get enough of the joy C’mon brings to the children who visit. Be it the members who frequent the Museum to play in their favorite exhibit or the child arriving on a field trip stepping into C’mon for the first time with that look of awe; the energy the kids have is nothing short of pure joy. We as adults tend to forget it is the little things that excite a child. I’m proud to contribute to that excitement.
Q: How long have you worked at C’mon?
A: I started at C’mon over 4 years ago as a Programs Coordinator, following six years of teaching middle school science. I am now the Programs Manager and oversee a multitude of programs going on in the Museum. While I am mostly behind the scenes now, you may catch me leading a STEAM Workshop or doing the Penguin Dance.
Q: What is your favorite exhibit?
A: I like the World Cafe. It’s so much fun to interact children whipping up a good meal. If I’m downstairs, I can take a seat on one of the stools at counter and ask, “Can I have some food? I’m feeling a bit hungry.” Children will scramble to bring me a drink, our kids make a great cup of coffee, and something that always seems to resemble a pizza. Whatever the meal of the day may be, it’s always tasty.
